Stepping up the pace

We have expanded our business in a number of areas – appointed as preferred security provider for the new Claudelands Event Centre; our service level at The Base has almost doubled; and our technology solutions are in hot demand!

We have introduced a Segway at The Base, Seddon Park & Waikato Stadium for events – they really catch people’s attention and make it easier to engage with the public. We will add another two Segways to our resources this year.

Segway gives security patrols extra legs

Waikato Security is turning heads with its new Segway patrols. The hi-tech personal transporter is proving its worth on major sites around Hamilton, where it enables security guards to patrol large areas more frequently.

Waikato Security CEO Chris Mangan says the company invested in its first Segway despite clients not being convinced it would add value to their sites. “But they have quickly realised how valuable it is. It enables guards to move around a large site quickly and easily, so they can often prevent problems before they happen.”

Especially equipped for security work, the Waikato Security Segway can be a fast response in emergency situations.

The Segway also attracts plenty of interested attention from the public, which makes it easier for the security guard to establish a friendly presence on sites. “On most sites, that’s a key part of our role – to be visible and approachable,” Chris Mangan said. “I expect more clients will soon be asking for us to provide a Segway as part of their security.”

Our plans for 2010

WSS will continue to expand both in manpower services and into the technology arena. We will be introducing some new products and services into the market place along these lines to compliment existing products and services and will also be looking at national supply contracts.

Continuing investment in staff training is another priority for 2010. You never stop learning and I believe we should all look to learn one new thing a day, be it in your work place or personal life.

Our continued success in gaining work is often due to our company’s reputation as a ‘quality service provider”. Receiving compliments from clients about our service and quality of work is without doubt the most rewarding client contact I have and I thoroughly enjoy hearing compliments such as:

“Thank you for your commitment and professional service to our school during the year.”

“Compliments on your very nice technician who came to do the job – very courteous & helpful

Innovation: In this very competitive market we are always looking for opportunities to stand out from the crowd and to offer clients effective alternatives. With this in mind, we introduced a Segway to our patrol options. It is a very cool addition to the city streets and client sites, enabling us to provide extended coverage for selected duties

Strong demand for security

The WSS brand continues to dominate the security market in Hamilton and with new national opportunities opening to us, 2010 is shaping up to be an even busier year for our company.

We have seen a real "back to basics" approach in our business operations which is proven and you will see more of this approach this year. I’d like to take a moment to reflect on some highlights achieved over the past few months - each contributes to the successful operation of WSS

  • Increased guard training including leadership training for management
  • Upgrades in technology
  • New product introduction including Benefon and Identicom GPS systems.

Another goal achieved has been New Zealand Security Association accreditation in manpower and technology. This accreditation followed a significant audit of our systems, processes and service delivery capabilities in these industry fields. It is another valuable way in which we can demonstrate our industry leadership.
